Title: Intensive Writing Camp (G7 - 12)
Instructor: Lily Dayton, M.A.Ed, M.F.A. candidate in English/Creative Writing
Email: [email protected]
Duration: 8 Sessions, 7/14-8/6/2020, Tuesday & Thursday, 6pm - 8pm
Welcome to Writing Camp! I look forward to working with you this summer. Ray Bradbury said of the reading and writing process: “We are cups ... constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.” Using our textbook and readings as a foundation and jumping-off point, you will then “tip yourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out” by working on creative writing exercises, which you will submit to me for constructive feedback. By the end of the semester, you will use the skills you’ve learned to write, workshop and revise a complete short story, which you can then submit to contests, journals or magazines. You will be expected to complete all assigned reading and writing exercises, as well as to contribute actively and thoughtfully every class session – but this intensity and dedication is what will lead to the greatest growth and reward at the end of the semester. It is my delight to embark on this writing journey with you!
